COCONUT LADOO RECIPE

Come Holi or Diwali, the Indian household is buzzing with flavours of sweets and Mithayis. No doubt, we Indians are very fond of sweets as for food in all its spicy form. Food is a celebration for us…and with friends and family it is all the more exciting…..

Recently we had Holi, “THE FESTIVAL OF COLOURS ”And not to mention the gujiyas… by far the most delectable of all the Holi sweets…. This time however I added one more recipe to my list of preparation, THE COCONUT LADOO! Yes… it is very easy to prepare and deviously tasty…

Here in South of India, coconut is one of the main ingredients, whether it is cooking food or preparing sweets. So, I took the humble coconut in its mighty form and transferred it to something that our tradition boasts off.. THE COCONUT LADOO!

Let us roll the Ingredients:

  • Coconut- 1, grated
  • Sugar-100 gms.
  • Milkmaid- 1 tin
  • Salt- 1pinch
  • Ghee- 4 tsp.
  • Dry fruits- pista, badam, raisins, 1 small bowl
  • Green cardamoms-8
  • Black cardamoms-2
  • Yellow food colour- optional
  • Red cherries- to garnish

METHOD:

  • Grate the coconut and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan, add ghee. When hot, add the dry fruits and sauté.
  • Add the coconut and the milkmaid, with sugar and salt till all the juices of the coconut evaporates and the remains become sticky. Add the food colour and salt and turn off the heat.
  • Let it remain seated in the pan for a couple of minutes, till it is easy to handle in the palm of your hands.
  • Take a little ghee in your palm and roll out small ladoos of the prepared consistency. Roll the ladoos in the dry coconut.
  • Place them in a tray, decorate with cherries and serve cold.

I bet it is as tasty as it looks, give it a try, and with condensed milk, or milkmaid, these recipes attain a real surreal flavour, that are easy to prepare, and healthy to consume :D
